A spec sheet is a section inside of a tech pack.
New designers don’t know this, but most factories don’t require a tech pack. But, they DO need a spec sheet.
This guide will teach you how to save a lot of money by creating your own spec documents.
The first section of the spec sheet is general company details. It should include…
1. Description - of the garment being made.
2. Style number – for easy tracking of developments
3. Product category – tops, bottoms, swim, etc.
4. Collection – what season is this for?
5. Company information – how can the factory contact you?
The second section of the spec sheet is all about getting the right fit…
1. Garment diagram and technical sketches – this shows the factory exactly how to measure the garment.
2. Measurement Excel – this tells the factory what each point mentioned in the technical drawing should measure.

The third section of the spec sheet gives all the smaller details…
1. Construction guidelines – this explains what type of stitches should be used.
2. Design embellishments – trims, buttons, zippers, labels, tags, etc.
This is way simpler than you think. Because the work has already been done for you.
The easiest way to create your own garment measurements is to go out and buy a full-size run (x-small small, medium, large, x-large) from a competitor.
Then, take note of how much each garment increases from size to size.
No need for expensive and hard-to-use computer programs…
Just use good old-fashioned Excel to organize everything!
