DVF might have invented the wrap dress, but legally, anyone can copy the exact style.
Yeah, fashion can be unfair when it comes to copycats.
But one way (basically the only way) that brands can protect themselves from being knocked off is by creating unique, one-of-a-kind prints.
Prints are an inexpensive way to create a lot of variation in your designs.
For example, if a brand has a style that their customers love, an easy way to refresh it is to make it in different prints.
Think about it. A small pastel flower-printed t-shirt feels very different from a bold neon geometric print on the same t-shirt style.
Fiverr is my absolute favorite place to find and work with print designers.
Plus, Fiverr has a great refund policy in case things go wrong.

Just because a designer has great reviews, that doesn’t mean they will do a great job.
Always make sure to check out their portfolio, and confirm they are making similar designs to what you want.
For example, if a designer’s portfolio is all black and white sketches, and you want watercolors, even if they have 1000 5-star reviews, they might not be right for you.
Never skip the strike-off process.
A strike-off is a small swatch of your fabric printed with your pattern. It’s a chance to see what your print will look like in person.
This should ALWAYS be done before placing a sample or bulk order.
1. Color drag – smudged before it dried.
2. Color splatter – exactly what it sounds like.
3. Fuzzy patterns – looks blurred and not crisp.
4. Off register – print is not aligned properly.
5. Stop mark – a line in the fabric.
6. Colorfastness – color fades quickly.
